ABOUT OUR CLUB

Local boating enthusiasts founded Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club (MBYC) in Bellevue, Washington in 1946.  MBYC membership affords you many boating privileges and social opportunities while gaining an appreciation for the marine environment of the Pacific Northwest.  Although a primary focus is on the boating interests of its members, you need not own a boat to join.

MBYC is a participatory yacht club, meaning that all members are active in the functioning of the club; including business, work, social and recreational affairs. Members enjoy club moorage, both permanent and seasonal, as well as numerous social functions throughout the year. Boating activities include organized cruises, power and sail regattas, Seafair participation, outstations for members’ use, and reciprocal facilities with other yacht clubs.  Regular membership in MBYC entitles the member, his/her spouse together with the member's children under the age of twenty-one, to enjoy the privileges of the club.

Facilities and Outstations and Contact Information
We own all of our beautiful homeport marina and clubhouse facilities debt free.  The marina consists of about 450 linear feet of Lake Washington waterfront with 106 open and covered moorage slips.  Our historic clubhouse structure contains some 15,000 square feet of space on three levels housing kitchen and dining facilities, a bar, meeting rooms, lounge areas, club offices and storage areas.

Our clubhouse is located at  9927 Meydenbauer Way SE, Bellevue, WA 98004.

Our mailing address is P.O. Box 863, Bellevue, WA 98009.

Our phone number is 425-454-8880.

MBYC owns its Port Ludlow outstation facility comprised of 300 feet of waterfront, several acres of land, a large dock and other outbuildings.  We also own 85 linear feet of condominium dock at Eagle Harbor in Winslow.  The Club leases additional outstation facilities at Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, Deer Harbor on Orcas Island and at Ganges on Saltspring Island in Canada.  All of our facilities are available exclusively to our members and all have customary moorage amenities.

Club Management
MBYC’s business and administrative affairs are handled by a Board of Trustees and four elected bridge officers comprised of the Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore and Fleet Captain.  The club has only one employee, its manager.  Chairpersons volunteering from the general membership head all social and operational committees and events throughout the year.  All members are encouraged to participate in any cruise, party, meeting and other activity that interest them.  Self-help with respect to the maintenance, operations and social functions of the club is a valued tradition at Meydenbauer and new members quickly find areas to lend their talents.

Meetings
The Board of Trustees meets monthly except July and August and its minutes are published for all to review.  We have nine monthly dinner meetings held on the second Friday of the month September through May.  A men’s group meets weekly for Wednesday lunches and the women’s interclub group have monthly lunches at other clubs throughout Puget Sound.

Regattas
MBYC maintains an active cruising calendar with scheduled rendezvous each year at Port Ludlow, Poulsbo, the San Juan Islands, Victoria BC, and other interesting locales.  We also sponsor a very popular youth sailing program for children eight years of age and older.  In addition to these activities, the club conducts predicted log racing for power boaters and holds several private and inter-club sail races throughout the year.

Social Programs and Communications Tools
The MBYC Mates are a social and philanthropic group with their own bylaws.  They promote friendliness among club members, hold fund raising events and in cooperation with the Board of Trustees, identify projects for club and community improvement.

The Club publishes the monthly Fairwinds newsletter containing Officers and Mates President reports, news on current and upcoming events and is the vehicle to distribute reservation forms for dances, brunches, cruises and parties.

A "public" web site provides interest of general interest to non-members, including an overview of the annual event calendar, membership information, regatta details (Power, Sail, Youth Sailing), and a photo album of past events.

A password-protected “Members-Only” web page provides links to names and email addresses, pictures and events, reservations, moorage assignments and wait lists, and many more features.

Reciprocal Yacht Clubs
Each year in April MBYC extends reciprocal privileges to area yacht clubs who also offer the use of their club facilities to our cruising members. Details of reciprocal facilities available at MBYC are provided to each approved club annually. MBYC provides these privileges only to those clubs on the currently approved list.

Moorage
Moorage is a deemed to be a privilege of “active” membership to be earned on a continuing basis.  There are many opportunities to be “active” for everyone whether working or retired.

Membership Process
Two current members in good standing must sponsor a prospective member. If an applicant doesn’t have a sponsor, they can arrange for an interview with the Vice Commodore and the Membership Committee. Once an individual decides to join, they fill out an application provided by the Club that is submitted to the Vice Commodore who shall interview them. Then their names are published in the Club’s monthly newsletter “Fairwinds” and after publication, the Trustees, at their next regularly scheduled meeting, review the application for approval. This process usually takes two months. New members are introduced and welcomed at the next dinner meeting or social function convenient for them.  These events are always fun and are great ways to discover lasting friendships.

Costs
Annual Club dues are approximately $600, billed quarterly.  Initiation is currently $3000 and several payment options are available. Persons between the ages of twenty-one and thirty-five, inclusive, may join as “Intermediates”. Their reduced entrance fees and dues are applied to the initiation fees.  Moorage is very reasonable and is billed quarterly with the dues.  There is a modest charge for most club social events.
